Fantasy/Isekai Slice of Life and generally rather chill with little to no combat

Iyashikei (癒し系, lit. "healing" or "healing-type"[1][2][3]) is a genre specific to Japanese works, primarily manga and anime. It is a sub-genre of slice of life, portraying characters living out peaceful lives in calming environments, and is intended to have a healing effect on the audience.

I adore the monstrous in all forms, so it kinda breaks my heart when magical creatures are written as irredeemable for having a nature they couldn't choose. These shows contain primary characters who are nonhuman! Or/as well as have themes where the supernatural is benevolent, neutral, or just has a rightful place in the worlds' balance. Movies are at the very bottom :)

I love shows where cats take the lead! Especially when we get to see what goes through their minds. Many of the cats on this list can say exactly what they're thinking! And others are still pretty much normal cats. Either way they're the stars of these shows. (However there wont be any neko-mimi here, only normal and mildly supernatural cat-cats.) So if you like cats please enjoy this collection. :)

My recommendations of little-known (not famous / obscure) anime (popularity rank at or below 1900) that I personally enjoyed (a lot) because of their unique premise, interesting characters and/or well-executed plot.

I am only including ones that I have watched. The shows listed here are not limited to any particular theme or genre.

Self-explanatory. A convenient list that shows when each of these seasonal anime ends in their source material.

Anime that adapted the entire source material, are currently airing, or is a loose adaptation of the source material that doesn't follow the story will not be included (anime based on games/other media will not be included either as those also often fall into an original story).

If there is both a manga and a light novel for a series, then they will both be listed. But, if the anime has gotten ahead of one of the adaptations, it will not be listed.

Animes with major animals characters or focus on animals.

This includes all animals that exist or existed as well as mythical creatures heavily based on animals. To be clearer, the mythical creatures have to exist outside of their franchise such as dragons, kitsune, cerberus... For this reason, animes like Pokémon won't be on this list.

Semi-humans don't count as well as characters that can transform into animals but don't do most of the time. Anthropomorphic animal characters are excluded too unless their human side stays very minimal (The Lion King level if you want an example)

For clarity, I only included seasons 1 and of course I only include animes that I have watched.
