Anime is increasingly targeting people who have already graduated from school.

Japan's birth rate keeps falling, schools are closing, and the school age audience is getting smaller every year.

I would not be surprised if, after 2028, we might see more seinen and fewer school-related anime.

@MoyaTheGreat I don't think its true. First, seinen doesn't have a specific setting, Kaguya-sama is seinen yet its still a romcom school-related and many shounen doesn't have a school-setting. Second, the school setting is very popular among adult viewers especially for the nostalgic factor. It's always going to sell. The age audience is not really a definitive factor. Third, seinen is not even massively popular among the adult audience, also series with a mosly adult cast like Kaijuu 8-gou are still shounen so it isn't true seinen is getting more popular. Seinen is always going to be less popular than a shounen for obvious reasons. Kaguya-sama is a rare case of a seinen being popular since people watch it for the comedy, romance and even the school setting, not for the seinen aspect. This also applies to other seinen with a school-setting.

You're confusing demographics with the setting and the age audience. Even in the extremely unlikely event seinen is more produced, the audience is not going to like seeing Anime with adults doing boring things. And if they do interesting things, be prepared to read comments saying that they "don't act like an adult" or "don't look like an adult". This is one of the most constant criticisms for Kanojo, Okarishimasu and Kaijuu 8-gou. I even checked the seinen list and several Anime don't have an adult cast/full adult cast, they are school-related or even comedy, at least 3 even don't have adults in the main cast despite being seinen: Medalist, Ao Ashi, Kimi no Koto ga Daidaidaidaidaisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo, Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!?, Shiunji-ke no Kodomotachi, Tongari Boushi no Atelier, Snowball Earth, [Oshi no Ko], Kirei ni Shitemoraemasu ka, Wandance, Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru.

School-related Anime is not even that disliked as other genres so I don't see how they are going to be less produced if school is always going to sell especially since its a familiar setting for everyone.

Super no Ura de Yani Suu Futari, for example, is a very rare Anime where all characters, both main and side, are adults and its seinen at the same time which it hasn't happened since (from my memory and excluding non-romance seinen like My Home Hero) Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii (not even a seinen). Even so, most people like Wotakou due to the romance, comedy and otaku culture and not due to the "age" of the cast. The most ironic part the most popular series with an adult cast nowdays is Kanojo, Okarishimasu, a shounen.

@ToumaTachibana You are right, i misunderstood what is "seinen" is.

But my thought is more like school anime might get less and lesser adaptation.

we can see more and more adult cast go viral.

like sasaki pichan etc.. previously what we usually see is NEET MC reincarnated and become OP EASILY etc..

IDK.. just brainstorming NVM

I can relate with him (except for tbe smoking part) but somehow this anime is not as fun as i thought it would be sadly.
@Lucio54 yeah tbh, if the budget was more it could have been nicer. The animation i can di but dialogs and script for this anime seems lackluster..

38. I like the show, but I still see it as a grim form of escapism for aging salarymen who will never again experience romance, such as myself.
@KeluMocy im on my 30s also. I have my romance and family and love watching these 2. I understand why people feel as escapism but i seriously just see as a good story of connection. And, feels good seeing adults in romances in Anime. This show kinda became mine "smoking behind the supermarket". It just puts a smile on my face seeing these 2 connect and people feeling good.
Anyway, my point is, like the show, everyone can experience romance in any age, some sooner then others. So, just take the show as a positive way of seeing things.

I actually hit 30 back in November.

As others mentioned, I never touched cigarettes or anything like it before either. I came for the cute romance with an adult cast, and I actually picked up the manga for a while. I only stopped because the reading service I was using to keep up felt like too much trouble. Pretty sure I was led to it from a Gigguk video. He also spotlighted Frieren before it got an anime, so his track record (as far as I've seen it) is pretty solid.

out of curiosity, why do you ask? Is age more important than personal taste when it comes to watching anime?

I'm pretty sure you know this thread feels more about curiosity about a show's active demographics, since you offered a tool for it... that was just a weird initial assertion to make about OP's intentions, imo

Yes, i myself when watching a show, im curious how many people are on my age. And now having a show of adults, doing adult jobs on adult life, which is rare for romances in Anime these days, its interesting seeing how many people on their 20s, 30s, 40s are watching, because the average anime viewer is older then 20 years ago and a lot are hungry for such kind of story. Despite feeling the age gap is to big here, its still fun.

I quit smoking about twelve years ago.
And I expected the series to be more serious. My expectations weren't met.
There should be a poll in the first post of this thread.

@MoyaTheGreat understandable. I want more adult cast too but I also don’t mind when the characters are young adults in school too because I can’t complain lol. Better than nothing
