| This show has serious world consistency issues. Magic apparently really degraded and Eftals power even with like level 6 or 7 spells is like miracles in this world now. But then Merlin came along and she can do similar shit as well. So obviously there was always people around who knew how to do proper magic still. Then why was this considered lost technology when someone like merlin was still around being able to wield so much power? Couldn't they learn from her? How is everyone so weak if properly strong people who actually understand magic, have still existed? Especially considering she's like the headmaster of a magic school. Huh? What??? Did the author even think about this at all? Also, Eftal has no reason to keep his identity secret other than "it's going to be bad". Why would he not just come out? Would anyone stop him from studying then? That is his goal right? To study in peace. Who would stop the freaking lightning sage from doing that? No one. Instead he keeps it a "secret" (very poorly I might add), and therefore constantly gets roped into nonsense he doesn't wanna deal with like this special student crap. So keeping it a secret is actually achieving the opposite of what he wants while coming out would help him get his peace and quiet. The show is just doing this secret nonsense because that's a trope in these OP MC isekai shows, that's all there is to it. The author did not for a second actually think about actually giving him a good reason to keep it a secret other than "surely it will be bad if they find out". And for what? Only to have it exposed at every opportunity anyways. What's even the point? This show is written really lazily and it manages to even retcon itself with the whole degraded magic thing. I've never seen a show retcon itself before... That's some seriously amazing achievement... |

| The entrance ceremony mock magical battle between Eftal and Merlin truly is the highlight of the episode, and with high stakes as well to test how 400 years of growth have shaped her. From the get-go, the duo's mock battle is easily a spectators' event, as much as it is for Merlin to reaccount her teachings with the Lightning Emperor himself, going as far as to try her most powerful attacks on him to show how far she's come. A quad-Multicast Level 8 Thor's Hammer against his original Level 10 Eftal, it's undisputable proof that the Eftal before her is indeed the Lightning Emperor reincarnated. But of course, the secret between the 2 (and now Anastasia as well), it's no longer a secret anymore now that the cat is out of the bag. The wish for Merlin to take both Eftal and Anastasia into her magic academy, it's part-helping his research much. Wecome to Altena, Eftal and Anastasia. The best episode by far up to this point. |
