This is the almost perfect romcom, if not for what even the mangaka himself has admitted to be his tendency to hold back whenever something is about to happen.

I genuinely fucking loved this manga. The dynamic between Kurokiya and Tadashi is pretty much everything I want from a romcom. Kurokiya constantly trying to get a reaction out of Tadashi, only for him to completely ignore her attempts or casually turn things around on her, is fucking hilarious. Their chemistry is easily the strongest part of the manga, and I never got tired of watching these two interact.

Kurokiya herself is also a fantastic protagonist. She's cute, ... funny, shameless when she wants to be, and watching her confidence crumble whenever Tadashi actually gets the upper hand is probably one of my favorite parts of the series. Tadashi being ridiculously straightforward makes their dynamic even better.

The biggest problem is that this manga really likes to put its foot on the brakes.

There are SO many moments where you can tell something is about to happen, whether it's a romantic development, a confession, or simply the characters getting closer, and then the manga just goes "lol nevermind" and goes back to the usual routine. And the frustrating part is that Pororokka-sensei has apparently acknowledged this tendency himself. You can genuinely feel the restraint in the way some of these scenes are handled.

I don't think the manga needed to suddenly become some serious romance drama. The teasing and comedy are what make it so good in the first place. But sometimes I really wanted it to just fucking commit. The characters already have the chemistry for it, so seeing the manga repeatedly stop right before reaching the next step was probably my biggest disappointment.

The art is another thing that keeps this from being a 10/10 for me. I actually really like Pororokka's art style. The characters are expressive, Kurokiya in particular has a ton of personality, and some panels look genuinely great. The problem is the consistency. There are moments where everything looks fantastic, followed by panels where the proportions, details, or overall quality feel noticeably weaker. It's not bad art by any means, but when the manga looks this good at its best, the inconsistencies become pretty noticeable.

And that's basically what makes this manga so frustratingly close to perfect for me. The characters are great, the chemistry is great, the comedy works, and I fucking loved reading it. It just feels like there was always something holding it back from reaching its full potential.

I really wish Pororokka-sensei had trusted the characters a little more and let some of those moments actually happen.

Still, I had a fucking blast reading this. If you like romcoms where the main appeal is watching two idiots constantly try to get the upper hand on each other, read this.

This is a romcom I somehow picked up and I don't remember why. The story follows Kurokiya as she tries to get a reaction from Tadao, her childhood friend and crush, by trying to be lewd. The main joke of the manga is how Tadao is straightface gang despite everything that Kurokiya tries to do.

When it comes to a comedy manga with this premise, it has to really lift itself up with something in order to be entertaining. I think this manga does that well as the mangaka knows how to make really exaggerated and humorous expressions despite the generally serviceable artstyle. It also helps ...

Tedama ni Toritai Kurikiya-san is a manga in the unfortunately niche genre of gyaru romance. It follows a dumb as rocks girl trying to get her childhood friend to confess to her. The story has an interesting hook that the male lead is a comedically honest and straightforward person so when the lusty heroine tries to play the games typical of the genre her plans usually backfire.

The series kept things very brief at just under 40 chapters so perhaps my complaint about ...
