Synopsis

Inept at dealing with people, Koyuki Hikawa maintains a wall between herself and others. She spends her time in high school away from others, all alone. At least until she encounters Minato Amamiya who keeps closing the distance between them for some reason. The aloof Koyuki, the popular Miki, the boundary-less Minato, and the easygoing and kind basketball team member Youta. This is the story of these somewhat complicated four and their tantalizing, bumbling youth.

The characters in this series are some of the most realistic and relatable people I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. I've met someone almost exactly like every character in this series and it honestly just makes it that much more special to me. The art is nothing exceptional but it conveys what it needs to perfectly fine.

All of the relationships, misunderstandings and emotional conflicts are backed by solid writing and logic. There are plenty of absurd coincidences (life) that happen however every character involved reacts like a real human with real human emotions. The serioues has achieved peak in showing realistic relationships and interactions between characters. No other romance story that I have read among hundreds has given attention to so much detail in every single conversation, AND most importantly a single glance to something that changes the story maybe not completely but considerably. I was looking for a story that isn't just a happy romance, to which I can maybe not relate but to imagine how it would look in real life, and THIS story has finallly satisfied my needs.

The Ramparts of Ice is one of the most genuine and emotionally satisfying romance manga I’ve read. While the premise isn’t completely unique, it stands out because of its realistic execution and the natural progression of the relationships.
