Funeral Concerto is a one volume manhua, more precisely by a Taiwanese author. It covers the story of a woman who left her studies to leave her home and work as a coworker for a funeral company. Throughout its six chapters, we get to explore the many unfortunate circumstances after the death of a loved one, and this develops the main character’s perspective of life. It was also nice to discover the stories of the funeral director and his other coworker, both “saved” and at the same time “cursed” by this unusual job.

meaning of life and, more than anything, death; but not only that, it’s also a reflection on our dreams as people, and the importance of following them in our life. Having said that, analyzing the overall manga, there are some nitpicks I want to address.
Above all, the art isn’t incredible, but it does its job well. Of course for this type of story you don’t need top-notch drawing skills, but it felt somewhat bland and it didn’t exactly have a whole lot of personality. Other than that, the plot was also quite simple and linear, and sometimes felt more like a report than a manhua. However, to give credit where credit is due, the research behind this project was certainly impressive.
The author herself stated that she spent a whole year researching the information needed and interviewing professionists, this is reflected in the final product, which is incredibly accurate to reality and explains many fun facts of the funeral ceremony in Taiwan, which made this reading all the more interesting.
Overall, I think this is a remarkable manhua looking at the work that was put into it, but I don’t feel I can give it more than a 7. I believe others could enjoy it much more than me, but I’m just not invested enough in the Taiwanese funeral lol. I would still recommend this reading to anyone who’s interested in the topic or just wants to try something new, as you won’t find many others exploring such a niche subject with this level of depth.
