Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

In 2086, Naunax, an extraterrestrial mothership carrying 50 thousand life-forms calling themselves Simurians, appears above Earth. Simurians possess powers similar to those of Japan's jujutsu sorcerers, and thus all diplomatic negotiations are redirected to the Japanese, who are tasked with assessing whether coexistence is possible.

Though facing a special grade incident rivaling Sukuna Ryoumen's attack 68 years prior, humanity welcomes the aliens—for now. Fearing that these powerful beings could declare war, Japan agrees for a Simurian envoy to accompany jujutsu sorcerers to school and missions. Two teenage sorcerers—Yuuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, siblings and grandchildren of the late Yuuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin—are chosen to team up with Marulu "Maru" Val Vol Yelvori, a friendly, three-eyed Simurian. As both sides withhold crucial details yet want eventual harmony, it falls to Yuuka, Tsurugi, and Maru to maintain the fragile peace and prevent mutual ruin.

This isn't a formal review or anything but in my opinion modulo is a great sequel to JJK, although at first I thought the introduction of aliens was a bold move that I couldn't see working with JJKs already established world, they were a welcome surprised that serve as a means for Gege to communicate the central ideas of modulo that are an expansion to some of the themes present in JJK. My only qualms with the series is that yet again it felt like it should've ran a little longer, where I feel it should have been at least a 30 chapter series instead. ...

Honestly this felt like an extended epilogue to JJK's dog water ending, rather than its own thing and I guess it was okay if I don't really think about the plot or characters?

I don't really know how, but Modulo was simultaneously really wordy and slow while somehow also moving at light speed in regards to the plot, which makes it come across like Gege was amped up on adderall or something (but it was still Gege's writing in the end lol), but it just kind of feels like we are regurgitating the same fights and characters except if they were OCs. Perhaps I'm being unfair, perhaps because I felt that the original manga, despite having the potential for a better ending, concluded well enough and remains a great work in itself, not needing Module as an epilogue.

When I read Module, I felt that the elimination of the cursed energy , the virtual elimination of all curses and sorcerers wasn't a bad ending in itself, but that it should have been done by the original cast, taking advantage of something like the barriers created by Kenjaku and Tengen, instead of a deus ex machina involving an alien.

Previously, I left a much more negative review, and I may ... have exaggerated some points. I tried again to give a fairer review.

The new characters aren't hateful, but I didn't fall in love with them, nor did they capture my attention like those in the original work. I felt that the arrival of the Simurians (the aliens) didn't fit with the original work and felt out of place.

It also bothered me that the powers of the aliens were used to do something that the original cast hadn't done and a deus ex machine for elimination of the cursed energy , curse spirit and sorcerers.

I also felt that Gege's political message regarding the Simurians and immigration was very poorly executed and managed to convey the opposite of what it intended, despite its subtlety and the fact that the Simurians weren't sympathetic enough for that.

Making them worship beings who want to kill anything that isn't a Simurian hardly makes any possibility of integration seem realistic, or their stance reasonable or valid. Perhaps if their differences with human society were more ideological, like discrimination against those who can't even use cursed energy, why generate cursed spirits, or some way in which their leaders were organized based on their combat abilities, why did they have to do it to survive?

I feel that could have worked better as a source of conflict between the Simurians and humans, but still allowing the Simurians are seen as with more reasonable motives, but I imagine that would have required more time, and Gege wanted to finish quickly and rest.

To be fair, I think Modulo could have been a better work if it had been its own story and not a forced sequel to Jujutsu by an author who no longer wanted to continue with Jujutsu Kaisen.

Gege likely wrote it under pressure from his editor, crafting an ending that made it impossible for him to be forced to continue *Jujutsu Kaisen*—pulling a *deus ex machina* straight out of a race of alien sorcerers that had absolutely nothing to do with the original story, all while shoehorning in poor-quality political allegory that made me hate those aliens rather than sympathize with them.
