Oblivious Saint has a problem, and that is that it is kind of bad.
The issue is that it is content to be mediocre, it wants to just be an average romance. It adds in bits of the Saintess Genre to add some flavour, but it plays everything safe and it doesn't do anything to elevate itself into standing out and actually being good. That means because it didn't build a strong foundation it has no where to go but down when things fall apart, and things do fall apart.

to things and it is happy to settle for mediocrity, so I would point to the OP and ED for this series, granted an OP is not always indicative of a series of its quality, but it should be seen as a statement of intent, if you seek to pull in an audience the OP is a good way to do that.
So how does this approach it? Not only does it feel 20 - 30 years out of date, but it spends so much time with presenting its line up of characters no matter their relevance and if they are side characters that hardly appear. It is remarkably uninteresting considering this is how it is supposed to sell you on the series, and the whole sequence is bookend by her swaying side to side at the start and then the two of them having this incredibly stiff head bob at the end that just makes them look moronic because who does that?
I've not seen an OP this bad in years, all because it took the most low effort option possible.
Yes I will talk about how bad the OP is because it is the easiest way to talk about how low effort this series is while remaining spoiler free.
The animation is generic, it is often lazy and you see how they are saving money by hardly animating a scene but simply panning across there are repeating shots, repeating flashbacks, when you know the tricks, you can't help but see them especially when they aren't even trying to hide it here.
The Romance plotline is generic and nothing special, the saint plotline while it does try to add some flavour is flawed in its writing, it lacks development and a lot of the supporting world building, there are many elements that are brushed past to arrive at end results.
Characters are weak in terms of how they are written, most of the main characters are bland, and it also seems that some characters act in ways because it is how the story wants them to act, and not because it is how they would act as characters normally.
And now surprisingly I will state that with this, I'm actually on the fence, because I didn't love it and I didn't hate it, but I watched the whole thing, and while I recognise it is fundamentally bad / flawed, I don't have a negative view of it.
Perversely I would say some of the things that were flawed about it were the same things that made it watchable because I certainly didn't watch it for its romance as that was the dullest part.

This might just be the worst anime of the season
I wish I was being hyperbolic, I wish I could find something redeemable about this, I don't normally score many anime this low, it's so rare that only 1% of all anime I've watched has got a score this low. So yes this is bad
First is the concept, the plot point of a world that locks people into some sort of system and the MC rejecting said system has been done before, funny enough I can't think of a series that has done it well
Next is our OP MC, but it can't seem to get a

handle on if he's overpowered or not or rather just how OP he is, because yes he's level 999 and that makes him so much stronger than everyone else, but it's okay because he's the Villager Class which is the weakest class and he has useless skill, except they aren't useless and no matter how it dresses it up he's still OP.
See the thing is it wants to give the illusion of jeopardy and make you think that maybe he might lose some of the fights, but aside from automatic plot armour it is not believable that he would ever have difficulties when he is so absurdly OP.
The whole thing is badly paced, the plot doesn't work because at no point do you care for any of it, there is nothing that connects you to any of it, for example a main part of the plot is them essentially seeking to rescue an old man we haven't interacted with and don't really care about, the characters care about him, but that's the thing, we the audience don't.
Characters are flat, attempts at character development fail because it is so shallow, Parna's character is dreadful because they gave her such cheap motivations, and she has no depth to think for herself because the writing wants her to act in certain ways and not in a more nuanced way.
And then we get generic moustache twirling villains that would give Bond villains a run for their money in terms of monologuing, and my god did it highlight how awful the writing was with the needless and awkwardly placed monologue that could be summed up as "it was me Austin" but without any of the delivery...
Because that is the next thing, almost everyone in this is phoning it in, only Aoi Koga seems to have put in any real effort, Nao Touyama despite having a lead role put hardly any effort into it, she put far more into playing a mouse for the supporting role of Eima.
No one on the production side seems to have cared about making this, or at least it feels like no one could have been bothered, the animation is bland, stiff and feels low effort, fight scenes lack energy and there are inconsistencies within scenes. There are also times when you can see where quality gets cut back to save on costs, there are repeated frames / shots.
There are episodes that are so dull, so boring with nothing happening just endless dialogue about nothing much that you wonder who thought it was a good idea, I actually stopped watching for a while because I just couldn't do it anymore, I had to just give up on it, and I would have completely dropped it except for the last episode coming out, having that finish line in sight so I can finally finish this wretched thing and warn people not to waste their time on it.
Which actually brings me to the ending, because that is a thing, it couldn't just end in a decent place, on a satisfying note, no, it ends in a very unsatisfying way clearly hoping for a second season, a second season it likely won't get, which means the viewer will be left deeply unsatisfied with the whole thing, it is something that is often repeated in anime circles, but the ending is paramount, and if it can't even deliver on that, then it deserves to be hammered for that alone.
I don't go looking for bad anime to watch, I don't go into a series I know I am going to hate just so I can do a negative review, I went into this because it looked like something I might enjoy, trash fantasy anime with an OP MC can often be easy entertainment and great to unwind to when you just want to switch off your brain and relax.
I don't really ask for much, I just want to be entertained, and when it can't even do that, when it can't carry out the basics, and when there is very little redeemable about it (Parna in a bunny outfit feels like the one positive moment) I really do have to judge it accordingly.
As such, I can't recommend this

I want to do a retrospective review on this, not because it is good, but for the catharsis of reviewing a fun trash isekai
This as a series is so average and so generic that it is not worth writing home about, it has all the tropes, it has our OP MC who is a Kirito clone right down to the casting of Yoshitsugu, you can imagine the conversations around it.
Things tend to play out like you would expect, Celia is best girl, there really is very little that can be said about it, which is probably why I never tried to review it before.
The story

is lacking in complexity, MC is isekai'd turns out later he's not the only one, the story starts with him living in the slums, he rescues as princess, as a reward he is enrolled at a school where he learns about magic and how to use a sword, everything is cliche'd as you'd expect, he is then forced to leave and then starts on a journey
The thing is, when it comes to the story, everything is bland the characters are bland, there is nothing new here, nothing fresh, nothing that makes it stand out or anything that it tries to do differently, it's not a comedy, or a parody that doesn't take itself seriously, it looks at the plot and plays it all straightforward, and yet it is able to be entertaining.
It doesn't lose its pace, it never drags and as such you don't get bored of it, it is not inconsistent and is able to be focused on what type of series it wants to be and the story it wants to tell.
In short, everything is geared for you to be able to switch off your brain, sit back and enjoy the thing. There is nothing in it to derail your enjoyment, no moments that take you out of it, it is perfectly average which means its perfectly inoffensive viewing trash.
And that is the secret to it, it is a trash isekai you can watch again and again just like you would consume junk food, or comfort food, if you just want to switch off and watch something mindlessly then this scratches that itch

This is bad, it's not the worst anime of the season although it is close because at least this is somewhat watchable
I'd like to prefice this by saying that I'm someone who loves trash isekai and trash fantasy, I'm not someone who hates the entire genre and then rants about how all isekai is bad, it actually takes a lot for me to think a series is outright bad.
Firstly the EN title for this doesn't work, Overshadowed to Overpowered, considering he was one of the Four Magic Emperors, sitting at the very top of all magic abilities The Great Lightning Emperor Ephtal who so

many admired, you can hardly call him 'overshadowed' as for 'Overpowered' he didn't do anything to become overpowered the world has nerfed everyone else so now he is overpowered by default and I'm not sure that is a good starting point.
There are two ways an anime like this can go, it can embrace the absurdity of things and not take itself seriously, lean on the comedy elements and do something like Dainanaoji because if you have fun with it, the chances are the audience will also have fun with it.
The other path is to take things seriously, to play it straight, but you need to have really good writing for that or really good action and a budget to match, a series like Clevatess is a good example for what is needed for such a thing, or for plot and character focused anime Silent Witch can be a good example.
I'm not sure this knew what it wanted to be, which is problematic in itself, because it tried to play it straight and then started to flip-flop
The biggest issue is the writing just isn't up to calibre, it leans on tropes, bad guys are bad guys because they are so obviously evil to the point they would like to try out as SAO villains, the pacing is erratic, events are telegraphed a thousand miles away so there is no surprise, no suspense, no drama. and of cause Ephtal can resolve every issue because he is Ephtal.
One of the few good moments was when he showed he was able and willing to kill the bad guys early on, but put a pin in that because if it is going the serious route, which it leads you to think early on, he should be doing more of that and yet it reverts to being bad isekai and just leaving all bad guys beaten up at the side of the road because the good guy doesn't kill people.
It also doesn't help that it feels like the prelude, that the story is not actually started.
I want to convey just how bad this is, so for that I'll run through a scene from relatively early on.
He rescues, and obtains a slave early on, because of cause he does. she follows him to a big city while dressed in nothing but ragged underwear and a ragged cloak and the first thing he does is take her to a fancy restaurant to get a meal.
He doesn't clean her up first, he doesn't get her new clothes first, no, instead she gets to feel awkward as everyone is looking at her, this girl who is obviously a slave, who doesn't know how to react because he lacks all sense in this situation.
And remember this thing takes itself seriously, it isn't a comedy, it isn't played off as intentional trash isekai, whoever wrote this and whoever made this thought this was a work of art
This could have been a good trash isekai, it is not even that, this is a failure of an anime, it lacks all entertainment value, I dare say there is nothing of value here at all, the very best thing I can say is I was able to watch the entire thing without dropping it, not because I enjoyed it, but because I didn't hate it enough to reject it.
The worst thing, the very worst thing is there are some good moments where you could see what it could have been if it had opted to just be a trash isekai and not take it seriously, there is an episode where the two girls turn into younger versions of themselves and it actually has fun with that, it does also start off well, the first two episodes aren't terrible, it's just everything else, and if it wasn't for those things I absolutely would give it a lower score, because it deserves a low score.

All Works Maid is a gem, it takes the increasingly common genres of Saintess and Otome Game, smashes them together and then takes things in directions that you would not expect.
We've already seen landmarks in the Otome Game subgenre that have looked to redefine it, and All Works Maid will likely leave its mark as well. It is easy for a series to simply follow the herd, it's why we get so many trash isekai, yet to stand out and do something different, that is more difficult and we don't see it often because it can go badly wrong, after all tropes exist because they

work. So I will always applaud a series that seeks to do something different and wants to stand out.
Obviously this is a comedy and the plot reflects that. A girl who is the illegitimate daughter of a noble household sets off after her mother dies to become a maid, not just any maid but the best maid there ever was, she doesn't want anything to get in the way of that so she changes her identity. What she doesn't know is that not only is she hiding her links to nobility she is also supposed to be the saint which has given her immense magical powers, powers which she will use to turn around the life of Luciana, an impoverished noble in desperate need.
At first the isekai elements felt redundant and not needed, it was when the otome game elements were added that things started to click into place, it was able to use the characters well not only for a narrative sense but for comedic setups, and there was a twist I didn't expect because I had expected it to use the predictable 'lazy' option that many other series within the genre would have gone for
If you find yourself enjoying the comedy early on, and you like the character of Luciana then you will like the rest of it, if you like things like Mobseka and Hamefura, you will more than likely enjoy this. The first two episodes are a good bellwether for if you are going to like it or not.
The Otome Game genre has been very hit and miss, I would dare say that lately it leans towards 'miss' as there is always some element where a series will fall down, this is a solid hit, and it really does feel that it has no right being as good as it is as it is a solid piece of entertainment and something I never expected to be anywhere near as good as it turned out to actually be.
It's not the best anime of the season, but it is enjoyable and I would still rank it fairly high for the reasons I gave above, it is certainly not 'average' isekai slop

Ghost In The Shell is easily one of my favourite franchises, the '95 Movie and Stand Alone Complex cast long shadows over the entertainment industry, not just influencing anime but film too.
The Manga that inspired and started it all however has often surprised audiences with how different it is, the character personalities, the art style and the inclusion of comedic moments, but with every anime version of GITS chasing after the legacy of those two heavy weights, it seemed more and more likely we would never get a true adaptation of Ghost In The Shell, and then Science SARU entered the frame.

By' this is an Adaptation of the manga, it is the first time we have actually had that. There may be some deviances, but it is all there, the look is there, the spirit is there, the character personalities are there, even the Dominion cameos are retained.
It retains the 80's art style, the character designs, the aesthetic of Ghost In The Shell, but using the best of modern animation techniques, it is so well animated that it is hands down one of the best aspects of it.
If I have a slight negative, its plot lines are not as strong as 1st GIG or as tightly focused as the 95 Movie, they picked out the best aspects and focus in on those, here because it is a true adaptation it is also warts and all, the stories are good, it's better than anything 2nd GIG or anything later ever put out, but as a GITS review comparisons will always be made.
However it does make up for that with the personality of the characters and that is actually how those stories were written, with characters being at the forefront of some of the stories, so that the bigger plot heavy stories would have more of an impact later, and that is exactly what happens, the quality of the plot picks up in the latter half because if it started with those big thoughts you might switch off.
The OST is good, it is just not one the same level of good at the SAC OST, it suits this adaptation, but there is nothing memorable about it in the same way as SAC was memorable.
And I think that's the thing with Ghost In The Shell, 'Memorable' I will remember this adaptation for it's art style, for being faithful in terms of the adaptation, I certainly will watch it again, but would I call it memorable? Outside of those two points I don't think I would, the 95 Movie does it's own version of the Puppet Master story and has its own style, it is iconic, 1st GIG has its own style and Laughing Man is memorable, it is an iconic series.
It is competing against titans, against a legacy that it can't hope to overcome, these are impossible odds, so I can't hold that against it.
This is easily one of the best anime of the season, maybe even one of the best anime of the entire year, so just because it isn't the best anime ever, that doesn't make it bad.

This series started strong and ended weakly
When I saw the PV for this I remember thinking it was aiming to be the 'new' SpyxFamily, needless to say it wasn't, there are some things about this that remind me of Violet Evergarden, except it fall short in comparison because Victoria plays it safe
There have been several spy type series, this should not be considered one of them, it is simply part of the fabric, a coat that is worn but can be taken off, and therein lies a problem, it can be easily shed and discarded.
Her past as an agent heavily informs the first two thirds

of the series, she'll take action when she feels it is needed, wrapping herself up in that coat, it sits in the background informing her decision making, and she utilises the training in her new day to day life.
She also doesn't simply raise Nonna to have an idyllic childhood, but teaches her the things she'll need to stand on her own and to be able to make a life for herself.
This was the strength of Victoria of Many Faces, and yet as I alluded to, this would become discarded, in the final act the story shifted and all those sides of Victoria that we got to see before that made the viewer love the character and love the series, they were discarded, left behind as she adopted a new face.
It is primarily a romance, and those elements work well, for the most part, it took its time and allowed things to mostly progress in a way that felt natural for the series, it was easy to make an assumption as to how things would progress, which again brings us to the ill fated final act where it fell apart, it then slipped into a cliche
I keep talking about this, but in my opinion the final act did not work, there had been so many good moments within the series leading up to this point, there were several ways it could have taken the story, ultimately the author took a direction that was quite weak.
This leans into what I had said before about how it had reminded me of Violet Evergarden except it played it safe, there are many times when Victoria could have taken that extra step, it could have explored her dark past more, instead it shy's away from that. It doesn't show that Victoria is willing to fight for her new life, for her freedom or the things she has obtained, instead it seeks to avoid confrontation.
The final act doesn't sit well, it feels slightly 'off' and the reason for that is that it ignores the character development of Victoria, it ignores all that had happened building up to that point, the person she was when she first arrived absolutely would have acted that way, but the person she became, it feels like she would have acted differently in order to preserve what she had.
And then there is the final episode, the pacing of the last episode does not work, it could have been a 10 episode season and allowed things to have a better pacing, instead certain characters just end up in certain places, and there are other things in it that just stand out as not quite making sense, like a character that wore a wig not having that wig on for no reason at all, and the sudden backstory dump that took place that felt out of place and really didn't seem needed, yet if it was needed it really could have been done better than that.
"The Ending Is Paramount" is a phrase that always sticks with me, there is a certain amount of truth in it, a good series can be ruined by a bad ending.
This is not a bad ending, but it is a weak ending, and that just lets the whole thing down, right up until the final act this was an easy recommend, sure it wasn't an amazing series, yes it played it safe in many ways, but it was fairly solid and enjoyable, it did many things right, and that was right up until it didn't and we got that lacklustre ending.

I liked season 1, it wasn't perfect as it had issues, I hoped season 2 would be better as I thought those issues would go away with time
I was wrong
Season 2 is a bit of a let down, it kind of drifts through the storylines and becomes a bit dull.
It focuses too much on politics and it's not good at it, everyone dances around each other not saying anything about what is really going on, while Pride narrates the truth through what she knows from the Otome Game, and then eventually Pride will stop the dance to reveal all to declare the intentions of the

other parties, while declaring it was all a 'premonition'
I don't mind politics heavy or story heavy anime when it is actually good at it and the writing holds up, but this is not that, this is pretty average in what it does and so it really needs to mix it up in order to keep your interest to keep you watching, Season 1 understood this, it actually had balance and there was enough action to keep you entertained.
I would have finished watching this a few weeks ago except half way through I checked out, I needed a break and went to watch other anime instead, that is how much it managed to lose my interest with how much it dragged on.
Then I came back to it and the second half started with the same song and dance, I questioned my life choices and then it started to do something interesting, it picked up, it actually started to build toward something... This was a great turn of events and kept my interest and just as it was about to get good, it ended.
I'm not sure if Season 2 is a big waste of time, it feels like there are a of things that could have been cut or abbreviated, it is too slow and just feels like it is a set-up for Season 3, which at this point we don't know will even happen and I'm not even sure it deserves a Season 3 after this poor showing
What I do like is that Season 2 does further build on the world, it shows the other kingdoms and their kingdom is seem and sits within that world, it also builds on the characters a little more. And then there is Val who just runs away with every scene he is in to create standout moments.
But it still has the continuing issue of Pride herself.
It is the simple fact that our MC has been incarnated into the role of Pride, into an otome game that she used to play, that she is not actually Pride herself from that game, and yet can not recognise that she is a totally different person to Pride from the game, that she thinks she will one day carry out all the terrible acts of Game Pride, that she is responsible for the terrible acts of Game Pride, and views everything with that light.
Normally, a sensible Villainess character would incarnate, recognise the situation they are in, and then do everything the can to avoid the doom-flags and change their fate using the knowledge they have of the otome game world.
Pride has been changing events, she acts differently to Game Pride because she is a different person inside, people view her differently, she recognises that she can change events, she's recognised that she's changed peoples fates, and yet she can't recognise that she is not the same Pride from the Game, and that she can reach a different ending.
At some point she's going to recognise she's not Game Pride, right? Every not and then it seems like she might actually figure it out, that she might be aware that she is not the same person and yet, too often she flips back to the mindset that she is actually this evil villainess who will do terrible things and so her life is inconsequential as she deserves to meet her doom.
Yes this is a negative sounding review, the reality is Season 2 is a mixed bag, it does things well, it also does things poorly, but it doesn't really do quite enough.

I'm going to start this by saying I liked Season 1, I thought it was pretty solid, it had good worldbuilding, good pacing and it balanced the action with the story, it also brought in a few unresolved threads to keep you watching. It wasn't perfect but it had a quality of its own.
Season 2 looks great, it has great action scenes and... that's it
It doesn't really progress the story, it doesn't really add to the worldbuilding, it doesn't tie up any of the unresolved threads, if anything it just adds an increasing amount of them. It doesn't do much of anything except chase the

renewed trend of epic fight scenes 'because epic fight scenes are epic' But we've been here before with anime, sure you create a feast for the eyes and in the moment, but without substance people move onto the next spectacle as there is just nothing that ties people to it, to get them watching again and again.
I wish I was joking when I said little happens in Season 2, it also doesn't feel like anything really changes
We face the exam period that Season 1 was working up to, and the inevitable results, results day is interrupted by an invasion and large battle (see synopsis) after we finally get the graduation ceremony with our students getting promoted to the Tower, where we are promised things will change... So why does this feel like an extension of the Magic Academy? There we face the sorting process into the different factions, which just feels like different school houses.

There is a little bit of minor stuff that happens in between moments, but this is essentially all that is achieved in terms of the actual progression of events
Will's progression is also frustrating, Will was the underdog in Season 1, he earned the respect of his fellow students by the end of it, here after the invasion he get's everyone's respect, but as soon as he is in the tower, he's back to being the underdog because his character is needed to be an underdog character with everything working against him.
You can't help but side with Elfie as clearly everyone else is an idiot or incompetent
Many of the characters are now just background, there just enough to remind us they exist but not enough to actually exist as characters in their own right, to have the focus be upon them for more then a minute, only Julius got that privilege.
The pacing is just bad, with fight scenes taking up so much time there is little time for much else, so it feels that both nothing happens but also that it is rushing to wrap up events because it is constrained on time.
It also feels like there is a lack of consequence, that failure has no consequence as it can just be overturned easily and quickly.
Fundamentally, Season 2 is lacking, it looks great, it is enjoyable, but there are issues and when you notice them, you can't stop seeing them and in the end, it's kind of average

There is no getting past this, Season 1 is better
I felt like I was in the minority for liking season 1, the hate on the animation was overblown, and while I did have issues with it, I felt it was an average isekai/reincarnation series as it had potential and there were quite a few things I liked about it.
Maybe I have an advantage in that I've not really bothered with the source material, I gave the webcomic a read and I didn't really care for it, it just seemed average and shared many of the same issues that I had with the anime. But I

get fans of the source material expecting the world for something they like and being disappointed when they don't get it. But it did feel that it got a lot of hate from entitled fans who expected it to get animation at the same standard as Solo Levelling or something.
I went into Season 2 blind, and it was a disappointment, all the things I loved about Season 1 were pretty much absent from Season 2, the magic system, the world building and our time spent with Tess, these are things you really start to miss.
Season 1 ended with Arthur needing to wait two years before joining the Academy, and becoming an adventurer, Season 2 is just Arthur and Jasmine going out adventuring, and that is it, if you consider how much Season 1 packed in, Season 2 feels empty and lacking, it isn't well paced, and yes the animation in the final episode right when it counted was bad, but that feels standard fare for so many isekai these days. Because that's the thing, you can really just chalk this up as an average isekai as it behaves no different to any other generic isekai out there.
I know many fans love to blame the adaptation for many of its problems, but the story structure, the questionable choices where characters should know better, clichéd plotlines, clichéd character archetypes, those are all from the source material. The fact that so many things feel generic comes down to the writing.
The lack of Tessia hurts Season 2, she gave the first half of Season 1 much of its charm, but more than that, she was likable and had enough personality to be able to carry the series, you wanted to see more of her, it kept the episodes interesting. Season 2 doesn't have a character like that.
The pacing is 100% down to the adaptation, and our two years with Arthur as an adventurer was just not a fun way to spend the entire season, the last couple of minutes couldn't make up for this choice, all it did was make me look forward to Season 3 and feel that Season 2 was a big waste of my time.
It just feels like a generic trash isekai, where there is not much happening, the characters go off on quests, fight monsters, the story doesn't really do much and we have a hint of a conspiracy in the background.
I am someone who does like trash isekai, and while I found this okay as trash isekai, I still couldn't help but see the faults I've talked about.
TLDR Season 2 is just kind of bad and I don't think it has much, if anything going for it, it has become a generic isekai without any charm, badly written side characters/villain characters and it probably could have been condensed into half the episodes.
