Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (9/12 eps)
This is the kind of anime you watch and realize that its target demographic (10-14 year old girls) will go nuts over it, but that it leaves older viewers a lot to desire. It’s not bad per se, it just doesn’t innovate on the genre much (something that’s more forgivable if you’re younger and haven’t experienced what’s expected out of a shojo show). The storytelling is in-your-face and slow to progress, yet it’s not because that time is spent on character development; personally, the characters in this anime never go beyond their archetypes (for the FL: an insecure self-insert and the ML: a hot/cool/powerful love ...

I’m usually down for some overly edgy stories, but this one just didn’t do it for me.

There’s so many questionable details added to the characters’ backstories that it becomes convoluted. The anime is clearly trying to parallel the main kidnapper character’s moral hypocrisy with the pedophile guy, but it’s executed so poorly that it comes off as an unintentional comparison instead of a deliberate thematic decision. It doesn’t help that when it is trying to get across a metaphor, it is so in-your-face about it that it legitimately felt like the show was calling the viewer stupid. The main character reaches a breaking point ...

Preliminary (6/12 eps)
To be blunt, this is an anime I’d only recommend if you’re into “so bad it’s good” stories because this one is uniquely bizarre.

The first episode paints a homely image of everyday life that Leticia, the main character, has endured for years since her engagement as a child. It’s in an entirely different tone than the rest of the series (which is allegedly listed as a romantic comedy) and played completely straight until the reveal at the end of the episode that there’s hope in avoiding princess lessons.

After the first episode, the rest of the series develops into a horror story whilst pretending nothing is ...

This anime is an inoffensive addition to the isekai genre - so much so that I’d consider it rather un-noteworthy. The setting and premise is your typical magical fantasy setting, with the mc’s special appraisal gimmick being neither too out-of-place nor innovative. I’d lump this anime into the “junk food” category of isekai because, as of episode 3 when I’m writing this review, everything is progressing mindlessly. There is conflict, but it’s set up in such a way that even if you’re only paying 20% attention to what’s going on you’d realize where the story is going to go. The characters are a step up ...

Preliminary (4/12 eps)
I wanted to like this show, but its pacing is way too fast. Impactful scenes will happen so quickly that the character interactions feel inorganic. For instance, there’s a few scenes where Nue goes against bad youkai and struggles to protect Himari. However, this happens so quickly that the scene ultimately amounts to Himari going “No, Nue!!” and Nue finds the strength to beat the youkai. They then feel glad that the other is safe and then the next scene proceeds with little time to breathe. Being based on youkai, there’s a lot of lore to the world and cast, but it’s dumped on the ...

What you see is what you get. This show revolves around its gimmick that Mia is acting selfishly and childishly to prevent dying again and people misunderstand her and think she’s some kind of mastermind. This moves all of the comedy and plot progression forward, and gets a bit stale by the end. While Mia does get some character development from the relationships she gains, because everything revolves around the premise that Mia happens to do the right thing by accident, she remains largely the same by the end of the show. Normally this wouldn’t matter too much for a strict comedy, but the anime ...

Read this a while ago because I thought the main character was incredibly cute, but I was really disappointed with what it was about. Adding a spoiler warning because I read this a few years ago and can’t remember if some stuff is revealed from the get-go or if it’s considered a spoiler.

In short, I found this to be an uninspired school battle royale with some pretty sub-par romance. I didn’t mind the romance part, but at least where I read up to, it was the part put on a side burner. If you’ve read/watched an anime about an all-out fighting school competition with high ...

(Maybe slight spoilers***)

A bit of a disappointment. The pacing for the characters’ relationships happens quickly and sort of dampens their sweet moments together because it doesn’t feel warranted. My only other complaint so far (I’m currently on episode 4) is that one of the main appeals, aside from being in the niche “video game otome isekai where the mc can change their in-game fate” genre, is that the villain part is just for aesthetics. The show makes it clear that the demon king is more of a tragic character versus being an evil person, but outside of the anime’s in-universe lore, I mean it’s apparent ...

Preliminary (4/12 eps)
I’m on episode 4 and while it isn’t an outwardly horrible show, it’s incredibly boring. The art and character designs are eye-catching, and the show’s main couple is cute. However, that’s the main issue: this show is just cute and boring. None of the characters have really developed at all and the side characters are just as boring as the main duo. There’s a formula of “Mcs act cute in school, friends of mcs watch on and think how cute of a couple the mcs are, mcs act cute out of school, the guy mc almost dies but gets saved by the girl mc while ...

Since the anime just came out, I felt inspired to write a review on why I did not like this manga. I really, really wanted to like this story as a big fan of skeletons, knights, and medieval settings, but this story just didn’t deliver.

One of the biggest flaws is how bland the characters are. The main skeleton man gets isekai’d into this virtual world and immediately decides to just half heartedly larp his new identity. He views all the other characters as just that - fictional characters - and if the main protagonist can’t be bothered to care about the supporting cast, the ...
